It appears our family had some car misfortune on Christmas Eve......
* Rocky walked out of Wal-Mart to find the back window of his 4Runner smashed to pieces, thank goodness there was nothing to steal of value so he wasn't missing anything but now there is the new window to get.
* Ron and I left early on Friday and enjoyed a great shopping visit at Fletcher's Childrens Store in Eugene and then after meeting my good friend Dana for lunch we walked out to find a front tire very, very low. We drove around the corner to get some air and considered keeping a close eye on tire. Not more than 8 minutes away as we were bickering in the car, wouldn't you know it. I experienced my 1st Blown Tire! We both looked at each other like, now what. That is when the "I changed 1 tire in my life conversation" happened and upon looking in the truck. We found my new (used) car spare didn't come with a good jack NOR any lug nut wrench, so we were SOL on our own.I was happy to call BMW Assistance (like AAA) who told us it would be about an hour. Since my folks live about 15 mins away, we decided to call my Dad who brought out some tools but the tools didn't fit nuts, we headed to auto store about 5 mins away who just happen to be open at 4:30pm on Xmas Eve. End of store, we got what we needed, made it to my parents house and my mom was lovely enough to have created a peaceful ambiance of candles and tea from Oprahs Fav place in LA courtesy of my Uncle. I truly think she might have thought I would go into labor with the stress of the tire and I couldn't for the life of me get out of my mind all the horror stories of ppl. changing tires on the side of the road and then getting hit. I refused to stay in the car and I kept pulling Ron back from the side of the road!!!
Christmas was going to be a whirlwind of schedules with Rocky and Danielle splitting time between families as well as Hailey with Brian having a specific schedule but we were all excited to make it work. Slept in late as this was going to be our last Christmas without a little one around for long time. Plan to start smoker with prime rib early around Noon and then open presents around 1pm was going as scheduled TILL my mom went to side kick a dog bone from in front of the doorway, she hurt her knee/leg something fierce to the point well she was moaning uncontrollably and I began running from the the other side of the house after my fine tuned pregnancy ears picked up the sound. To tell you that she was in horrible, "broke you leg in a 1000 pieces" pain would be an understatement. My dad said that in all their 35 years together, he's never seen her in as much pain! With her double knee replacement surgery's 2 yr anniversary in January, this was a shock. Who would have thought having metal knees meant she could dislocate, pull, push or move something in her knee to cause this degree of pain. After Ron and my Dad carried my Mom to my car, I drove 80mph to the Emergency Room only to be unimpressed with their "non urgency" attitude and not enough staff to come help my mom get out of the car. So me and this 80lb register clerk helped her into a wheelchair after she had given me the warning, "I will punch someone if they touch my knee"! Note to self I said!!!!! It was heartbreaking to see my mom is this much pain and to make an even longer story short. While she was waiting in the in-take area for a nurse and room to eventually be x-rayed, etc. she had to go to the bathroom. My Dad and I took her and as she got up to get back into wheelchair, she miraculously said, "my knee is ok". We both said, "WHAT"! She then proved it as she walked on her own 2 feet to wash her hands and out of the bathroom to tell the ER lady, she was going home and that she hoped they didn't charge her. Phone calls to stop my brothers from coming to ER were being made, she signed paperwork and we were out the door. Whole time she was more worried about how the smoker was cooking her $120 prime rib and how Christmas had been delayed than anything else. I was scared it would happen again and begged her to sit down when she got home and ice her knee like nobodies business! The rest of the holiday went nicely, Baby Girl Ranson made out with some wonderful gifts and I have a new pair of hot purple sneakers from Ronnie plus two outfits to wear after baby is born and he cannot wait to get his car detailed with the gift certificate he got and to begin wearing the 9 pairs of insulated socks for working in the cold weather. I even got him fleece boxers to combat the cold weather.
We topped off the long weekend with a fun visit with one of my oldest buddies, Wendi Harvel and her hubby, Eric and two kids, J.D. and Samantha. They were up from Cali to visit family in Eugene for the holidays and they graciously came out to my parents house were we hung out and chatted for good, long visit! She rubbed my belly and gave Stella good wishes and also they gave us the coolest picture frame where we can put a copy of our latest 3D ultrasound picture and then one of her when she is born.
If you can believe it - I forgot my dig camera but brought my video camera so I'll play this weekend to see if I can post a video!
Much Love!
